Christmas in Singapore

Far away from family back in Sweden and Denmark - good we have lovely friends to celebrate with!!

With two 50/50 Swedish/Danish families, there was of course a discussion whether it should be a Danish or Swedish Xmas dinner - however, since the Danes were considerably better in the kitchen, they won…. and I was happily eating Duck, Turkey, sugar-glaced potatoes and all the rest :-) Morten did prepare a Swedish style ham for me, and I baked some type of Xmas bread (vörtbröd attempt)...

Santa is a given at Christmas and for the second year in a row, our dear Australian neighbor Justin did a great performance as Santa!

Christmas Day was spend with a Danish/Singaporean family with BBQ, gifts, and all that comes with that :-)

Snow in Singapore...

... or at least an attempt To get The kiddos The experience of a snowy feeling :-) Hannah & Matilde LOVED it, and Morten & I enjoyed seeing The excitment over The 'snow'!

Afterwards, we went For hot chocolate, pretending we were freeezzzzzing cold. Good The A/C was on as it was 28 degrees outside...!

Gingerbread house in the making

Gingerbread house in Singapore is simply a no-go…. the humidity makes the house pieces get all soggy, the icing melt (at least it makes nice falling snow on the house…) and the M&Ms slide down… Where to keep the house once finished? In the fridge is the only place where it will survive…

Despite all negative comments about the gingerbread house above, it's still worth making it as the kids loved the messy play and sneak the 'house decoration' into their mouths :-)

X-mas preparation…..

Time to start getting the Xmas feeling in Singapore… good the weather was on our side as rainy all day (at least we pretended it was all cool outside - and turned up the A/C to freezing inside :-)

Peaceful gingerbread cookies in the making…. or at least for the first round. Then Matilde realized that the dough was insanely good and when her was gone, war broke out….. lovely…. :)

Swedish Children's X-mas Party

SWEA arranged 'Barnens julfest' today at the British Club. Super arrangement - crafts, games, dance around the Xmas tree, gingerbread cookies, and 'fishing pond' (fisk damm). As the grand finale, movie time showing the Xmas Eve Donald Duck show, meaning quiet kids and the parents could enjoy a cup of coffee in peace :-)

Sister with daughters in Singapore!!

FINALLY is my sister Johanna and her daughters Minja and Anie in Singapore!! Lovely to have them here, and it's working remarkably well with our 4 girls - the risk of verbal fights is in the air…. but so far so good :-)

Indian Restaurant with playground - wonderful!

Dagens ungdom….!

Who are the tourists?!?

Xmas spirit :)

Church group attendance at Swedish Seaman Church. Anie was a little confused as the 'teachers' spoke Norwegian :-)

Desaru, Malaysia

Weekend in Desaru, Malaysia :-)
We had a great time, both relaxation by the pool and beach, as well as active in visiting various sites in the nearby area. Definitely to recommend if you want to get away from Singapore and maximum have 2 hrs door to door!

Best according to the kids:
Hannah - the ostrich (because she got to ride on one) and playing in the pool with friends. Playroom.
Matilde - fireflies 'safari'!! And the Ostrich because she will ride next time… ;-) Waterslide and beach.
Sara / Morten - convenient to get there. Fun with some different activities and local food places.

Not so good according to Sara:
- Standard of hotel was so/so but workable.
- Food at hotel was not too exciting.

Will we go back?
- Most likely.

Recommendation if going
- Bring snacks along.
- Enough Fri-Sun.
- Leave early from Singapore not to get stuck at the border. We went back around noon and traffic was not to bad.

Happy Halloween!!

Lots of kiddos at the condo today excited about getting candies - and fruits!!

Hannah 5 years old

Hannah is turning 5 today, our little baby is not a baby any longer :S

She has been talking about this day for 6 months with several count-down calendars so the excitement and expectations of this day, needless to say, where enormous!!

Staring out with Bday song / gifts / breaky in bed, followed by the weekly sports. The kids sang to Hannah so she was as proud as could be :-)

Bday party by the pool to a selected group of friends. The risk of rain was pretty much 90% but thank God we were lucky!! The group of girls had a great time with cup cake decoration, swimming in the pools, Bday cake with songs (the girls chose to sing in English, Swedish and Mandarin) and 'fish pond' in the end (Swedish tradition to fish for the goodie bags).

Hannah was very content with the day and fell asleep with a big smile on her lips and new gifts all around her :-)

Matilde fell asleep out of exhaustion...

Fire Woman!!

Lazy lazy Saturday at home, loving it!

Bootcamp in the morning (would never have made it if it wasnt for the girls dragging the exhausted mummy out of bed... sigh) followed by looong nap :-) Morten had a soccer game resulting in a foot of the size of a football...

What To do an afternoon With an 'injured' Morten and a still tired (lazy) myself... Role plays according to Matilde... :-)

Very Swedish Sunday

Swedish Birthday party, Happy Bday Nellie!, which was one of the better I've been To in Singapore. Mostly because it was spontaneous, easy games, happy happy kids, no hired entertainment, no over-the-top of everything - thanks Ketti :-)

Sealed the weekend with Swedish Church. Sooooo many kids and almost all were girls so H&M had a The best of times!

Matilde got a serious over-dose of sugar and was laughing uncontrollable for an hour, wonderful...... at least she wasn't crying :-)

Brännboll!!

Swedish Church arranges 'brannboll' every year and we have never managed to participate until today. Was a great get-together, the kids - and the adults - had a great time, and we were served hotdogs and burgers afterwards. It definitiely was a flash-back from the school court yard back in the days :)

Kite Festival

Lots of events are arranged in Singapore and we are in general not frequent visitors of such, blaming laziness and kiddos to young... Anyway, we attended a Kite Festival today and it was well arranged with lots of entertainment - only 'issue' was lack of wind, oh well :-)
